A red bird who wants in--

I’m not a dog who really cares about birds; I don’t chase them; I pretty much leave them to themselves. But then, I’ve never had a bird that wants to come into my house!

For the last week, a red bird, my mom says it’s called a cardinal, has been flying into the windows in the living room and near the front door a lot!! A lot means more than 10 times in an hour!! He keeps flying into the glass or the screen and bouncing off!! He makes a thudding noise every time. I tried barking; that didn’t work; he still does it. Every morning around 8 AM he starts and he goes around to all the windows and then he starts over again.

My Mom said he doesn’t belong in the house and she’s not letting him in. What do you think is the matter? Why does he do this? Do you think there is a nice way to let him know he is not welcome?

Hey Harley,
How is it going?I think you should ask your mom if she can see if he is hurt. You should also do this tell him in a nice way not a mean way. (I am not saying your mean or nothing like that.) Try to get your mom to let him in.

Well Harley,

Do you think he/she is hungry, the bird? Maybe it's hungry. In the morning if you have time before the bird comes, how about leaving a nice dinner for the bird. If it doesn't eat it, I don't know what's wrong. Have you ever thought about people or other animals harming the bird? Maybe thats why it goes crazy. Thats all the things I can think of to keep your family safe. I hope one of them works. Trying to give it food or checking if anyone is harming it.

P.S.- I have a special gift on you in my blog. I can't tell you what it is, you have to see it. By the way it might have an error in spelling.

Hi Harley,
I understand that you don't want that cardinal inside the house but I think He's lonley and need's someone to hang out or play with. Just try to get rid of it without hurting it.

Harley, I know how that feeling is because at my old church a hawk kept on running into the window. Now there is a jay bird who keeps on hitting the window while the preacher is talking. It was super consistent. I wanted it to leave and then it finally did. I bet it will be the same w/ you. Just wait because it will get bored, eventually.

Harley,
I think the bird just wants to eat or get something that is in your house. My advise is you should try to find what he/she wants or needs. Try to do that. It might not work, but atleast you tried.

This is happening in my h0me right now. Other internet sites indicate that the bird is probably going after insects or webs that are not visible to you, perhaps in the crevices of the windows. You should not let him in your home, especially with a dog.

I think maybe he is looking for something. I have squirrels and chipmunks that come around my house like that. We used to buy big containers of cashews and assorted nuts. Then, we would throw them on the concrette by my house and the squirrels and chipmunks would come, take some, and scurry off to their nests. It was funny.

The same thing has been happening with us, and it's a red bird. I googled this question to see if anyone else had experienced this. It has been going on for two weeks. Hours at a time. Our windows swing out and we opened the one where it was doing it and it stops everytime we swing the window open. I am convinced it is seeing its own image, trying to mate or something like that. Or it could be trying to drive the "other" bird away.
